Dear Tumblr,

I love this platform you’ve created and I thank you for the opportunity you’ve allowed us to meet so many lovely people via your creation. However, I do have a request or two.

Would you please stop forcing promos of blogs who do not source their uploads from third parties on my dash? 

I shouldn’t need x-kit or whatever to stop viewing stolen material - YOU shouldn’t be supporting blogs who are stealing other people’s work and sharing without credit or permission.

Please stop ‘trending’ these blogs. Just because they haven’t been caught by the original artist, doesn’t mean they aren’t thieves. 

There are so, so many wonderful creators who you can promo, thereby helping those creators who rely on their work to pay their bills, eat, live, just like you once did. Surely, that would be more satisfying, and definitely good karma.

Maybe I’ll see you soon on the non-thieving side? ♡

Water, Ice and Snow, Christine Falls, Mount Rainier, Washington, 2017

On my way up to the Paradise area of Mount Rainier National Park, Washington, I noticed the partially frozen Christine Falls. I took note of the location just in case I had time after the day’s snowshoe hike.

At the end of the day, as I was making my way down, shooting photographs of the mountain alpenglow, I made a quick stop into the pull-off near Christine Falls. The road was covered with snow and ice and the area where I had to shoot was right on the road. Luckily the cars that did pass by were going slow enough down the mountain road where I wasn’t in too much danger (at least I was hoping so).

Within a very short time, I was able to get off three images of the icy and snow covered Christine Falls. It was nearly dark but I was able to get good long exposure photographs to make the waterfall smooth and silky (about a 1.6-second exposure). Using my telephoto zoom lens, I captured a closeup photograph of both the upper and lower section of the waterfalls as well as a zoomed out image of both sections of the waterfall in its entirety (at least the portion above the road).

Because of the monochromatic nature of the scene, I opted to process the three images into fine art black and white photographs.

After completing this quick photo shoot (it took longer to walk to and from the car), I continued on my way to Longmire to finish out the day’s photo shoot, using every bit of light provided to me.
